Feds Gain Access to Trump’s Twitter Account
In a recent development, special counsel Jack Smith has reportedly obtained an “extraordinary array of data” from Twitter regarding former President Donald Trump’s personal account on the platform. This revelation comes from newly unsealed court records, shedding light on the fight to gain access to the account which occurred in January and February. The process faced significant resistance from Twitter’s owner and then-CEO Elon Musk.
The battle to access Trump’s Twitter account resulted in a fine of $350,000 imposed on Twitter by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell. The fine was a consequence of the company taking an extended period to comply with the search warrant. Judge Howell also criticized Twitter for its alleged extraordinary efforts to avoid turning over the data and for potentially warning Trump about the search warrant.
The judge went as far as suggesting that Elon Musk may have been attempting to “cozy up” to Trump in order to persuade him to continue using the platform. However, Twitter’s lawyers firmly rejected this claim.
As ordered by the court, Twitter was required to furnish prosecutors with various pieces of information related to Trump’s Twitter account. These include:
- Associated Accounts: Any accounts associated with @realdonaldtrump that the former president may have used on the same device.
- Devices: The devices used to log into the @realdonaldtrump account.
- IP Addresses: The IP addresses used to log into the account between October 2020 and January 2021.
- Privacy Settings and History: Details about the privacy settings and history of the account.
- Tweet Activity: All tweets “created, drafted, favorited/liked, or retweeted” by @realdonaldtrump, including any subsequently deleted.
- Direct Messages: All direct messages “sent from, received by, stored in draft form in, or otherwise associated with” @realdonaldtrump.
- Search History: All records of searches conducted from October 2020 to January 2021.
- Location Information: Location information for the user of @realdonaldtrump from October 2020 to January 2021.
The access granted to federal prosecutors to delve into the extensive data from Trump’s Twitter account holds immense significance. Twitter has been a platform through which Trump has communicated with the public, issuing statements, sharing his opinions, and even making policy announcements. Therefore, the information contained within the account could potentially provide invaluable insights into his presidency and decision-making processes.
By analyzing the associated accounts, devices used, IP addresses, privacy settings, tweet activity, direct messages, search history, and location information, investigators hope to gain a deeper understanding of Trump’s online presence and interactions. This access could shed light on his relationships, potential collaborations, and any undisclosed communications that may have occurred during his time in office.
This is a massive overreach and just another move from the left in their never-ending witch hunt to take down their greatest threat.
