Reports of Hunter Biden reaching a plea deal with federal prosecutors on Tuesday left President Trump furious. In a negotiated deal with Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, the 53-year-old son of Joe Biden is going to plead guilty to two tax crimes and will admit to the facts of a gun charge. The misdemeanors Biden will plead guilty to are failing to pay around $1.2 million in taxes for the years 2017 and 2018. There probably won’t be any jail time for Biden. President Trump criticized the Biden administration for letting his son off easy.

“Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere traffic ticket,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Our system is BROKEN!”

According to sources cited by The Washington Post, Joe Biden is expected to receive a recommendation of two years of probation from prosecutors. He will also enroll in a diversion program after admitting to illegally purchasing a firearm in 2018. This means that he will not officially plead guilty to the gun charge. If Biden successfully completes the diversion program, the gun charge could be removed from his record.

The Biden investigation, which has been ongoing for almost five years, has concluded with a reported deal. The House Republicans are also investigating Biden and his father for their involvement in an alleged $5 million bribery scheme with Ukraine, however, this plea deal is separate from that investigation.

Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, concurred with President Trump’s assessment that the plea agreement made by Joe Biden reveals weaknesses in the American justice system. “So Hunter Biden gets a special plea deal, slap on the wrist – probably won’t do a day of time – while DOJ charges Trump as a spy and tries to put him in prison forever. Two standards of ‘justice,’” Hawley said.

Last week, the former President Trump surrendered at a Miami courthouse and pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts as he is under investigation by Biden’s DOJ about how he handled classified documents. Despite the investigation, Trump remains uncooperative.

The indictment alleges that Trump unlawfully retained classified documents “regarding defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies to military, attack; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.”

According to Trump and some Republicans, the Biden administration is launching an unprecedented prosecution against him as his chief political opponent. Recently, when Trump’s indictment was revealed, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy promptly criticized the Biden administration. “It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades,” McCarthy tweeted. “I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice.”
