Senator Reveals FBI Doc References 17 Biden Audio Recordings
On Monday, a U.S. senator revealed that an FBI informant asserted that a foreign individual had more than twelve audio recordings of conversations with Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. The conversations were allegedly related to a $5 million bribery scheme involving Ukraine.
According to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the FBI possesses an FD-1023 file containing references to the mentioned recordings, which has been shared with the House Oversight Committee but with certain details removed. He believes that the file should be made public. Grassley and Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) have been collaborating to gather more information from the FBI, and Comer has used subpoena power to do so.
“The 1023 produced to that House committee redacted reference that the foreign national who allegedly bribed Joe and Hunter Biden allegedly has audio recordings of his conversation with them. Seventeen such recordings,” Grassley said in a speech on the Senate floor, noting he has seen the document with fewer redactions than what oversight panel members were given.
“According to the 1023, the foreign national possesses 15 audio recordings of phone calls between him and Hunter Biden,” Grassley said. “According to the 1023, the foreign national possesses two audio recordings of phone calls between him and then-vice president Joe Biden. These recordings were allegedly kept as a sort-of insurance policy for the foreign national in case he got into a tight spot.”
Grassley added: “The 1023 also indicates that then-Vice President Joe Biden may have been involved in Burisma employing Hunter Biden.”

The FD-1023 file, which discusses an alleged $5 million bribery scheme between Vice President Biden and a foreign national, was obtained by the House Oversight Committee after Comer threatened to hold a vote to hold Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena. The document is connected to Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian gas company where Hunter Biden served on the board for several years. GOP members of the House Oversight Committee made this information public after viewing the document.
Comer and Grassley have referred to the source of the document as a reliable informant, but the FBI has refused to release the document to Congress. This is because the information in the document has not been verified and the FBI fears it could put sources and investigations at risk if disclosed publicly. The informant’s identity remains unknown.
The Republican-led oversight panel is investigating claims made by an informant and plans to use the findings to improve disclosure requirements through legislation. However, Democrats and the White House have criticized the investigation, claiming it is motivated by politics. Biden was asked by a reporter about corruption allegations made by Republicans, and he dismissed them as “a bunch of malarkey.”
Comer discovered two footnotes in the file that referenced other 1023s when he viewed it with Rep. Jamie Raskin. The footnotes date back to 2017. The oversight panel is planning to view the other FD-1023 records with the FBI later this week.
Grassley asked about the recordings referred to in the FBI record that contains information provided by an informant, questioning what U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is investigating Hunter Biden’s financial affairs in Delaware, may be doing about them since the information is currently being used in an ongoing investigation.
Grassley suggested that the document, which is not classified, should be released to the public without unnecessary redactions. He, along with other Republicans, pointed out the timing of the indictment of former President Trump in a federal inquiry relating to handling of classified information and wondered why similar zeal was not applied to investigating corruption allegations against the Biden family.
“Getting a full and complete 1023 is critical for the American people to know and understand the true nature of the document and to hold the Justice Department and the FBI accountable,” Grassley said.
