Dave Hughes, a man from Florida, won a women’s poker tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock. Despite his win, Hughes was clear that he is “100% against” men participating in women’s sports. He was at the casino to visit a friend during a $7 million poker event, but when he wanted to play, the only game available was the women’s tournament. State law allowed Hughes to compete, and he emerged victorious.

When asked why he participated in the women’s event, Hughes stated that he believed women to be just as fierce, capable, and competitive as men in poker. He also added humorously that they “smell a lot better.” However, he also made it clear that he opposes men taking advantage of women in sports where physical strength and muscle make competition unfair.

Hughes expressed his concern about men breaking women’s records in every sport and pretending to be women, a practice he considers “pathetic and embarrassing.” He believes it is time to put a stop to the abuse and victimization of women in sports.

During the event, Hughes had a bounty placed on him by several women and one husband. Cash was promised to whoever knocked him out of the tournament, and the bounty started at $300 and eventually rose to $2,000, equivalent to second place money. Although Hughes was never defeated, the $2,000 bounty was given to the second-place winner, creating a more exciting event with added incentives to knock him out.

Despite the fanfare his participation in the event created, Hughes does not plan to enter another women’s tournament. He believes that women are every bit as good as men in any game that requires mental skill and wits and that they deserve better treatment in sports. Hughes concluded by saying that the silent majority is starting to speak up, demanding better treatment for young girls and women who dedicate their lives to playing sports.
