During an Easter-themed service at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota, newly installed “pastor” Micah Louwagie compared the Nashville shooter’s fate to that of Jesus Christ’s before his Crucifixion. The preacher, who identifies as a trans person and prefers they/them pronouns, laid blame on gun violence at the Covenant School and emphasized that guns are the leading cause of death for children. However, Louwagie failed to acknowledge that millions of babies die due to abortions every year.

Louwagie expressed frustration with society’s fixation on the Nashville shooter’s transgender identity, rather than on ways to prevent such incidents, such as gun control. The problem with the left is that they don’t understand that their identity is one of the factors that we can address to prevent things like this from happening. At this point, the transgender community is disproportionately a greater threat than other classes because of how many transgender shooters there have been relative to the total population size of them.

According to the Louwagie, marginalized people like those who identify as transgender are often victims of powers and institutions that harm them. Those with less privilege and power need people with more privilege and power to stand between them and danger.

Louwagie criticized “allies” who claim to support the transgender community but ultimately betray them. Louwagie likened them to Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Louwagie claimed that such betrayal comes from the fear of being associated with marginalized communities, and that it is often the most powerful who forsake those they are called to defend when those individuals are targeted.

“The disciples were afraid to even be associated with Jesus, lest they suffer the same fate, lest their bodies be put at risk, ” Louwagie stated. “I have observed that it is often the people with the most power and privilege who desert those they are called to defend when those people start getting harassed, beaten, arrested, targeted.”

Louwagie went on to compare cowardly “allies and advocates” to chief priests and Pharisees who sought to unjustly crucify Jesus. Louwagie further alluded to the threat that exists when marginalized groups, such as the transgender community, attempt to coexist with society. She explained that people in power may see their very existence as a threat, thus necessitating laws that control and even kill them.

The churche’s website reflects this mission with numerous rainbow and transgender flags. During her Easter-themed sermon, Louwagie referred to the Holocaust and Japanese-American internment camps and likened the atrocities of those events to the experiences of so-called transgender individuals. This is ridiculous.
