Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz recently testified before the House Homeland Security Committee that the US border with Mexico is in a state of crisis and that the Border Patrol does not have control of it. This testimony comes as a direct challenge to Joe Biden’s claims that the border is secure.

Chief Ortiz painted a complex and dynamic picture of the southern border, noting that illegal crossings are at an all-time high, with more than 170,000 people apprehended in February alone. He also noted that the number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has increased dramatically since Biden took office.

The Biden administration has attempted to downplay these numbers, claiming that they are in line with historical averages. However, Chief Ortiz argued that this is not true and that there is an urgent need for additional resources to address this growing crisis. He also stated that it was a mistake to stop construction on the wall along the US-Mexico border started by President Trump.

The White House has responded to Chief Ortiz’s testimony by arguing that they are taking steps to address the situation at the border and have requested $3.5 billion from Congress to help manage it. They have also implemented new policies designed to discourage migrants from crossing into the US illegally, such as deporting asylum seekers who cross without authorization and increasing enforcement efforts along certain parts of the border.

Despite these efforts, Chief Ortiz believes more needs to be done in order to effectively deal with this crisis. He argues that completing construction on Trump’s wall would help deter illegal crossings and provide additional security for those living near or crossing through areas near the US-Mexico border. He also believes additional resources should be allocated towards processing asylum seekers more quickly and efficiently so they can be safely returned home if their claim is denied.

Who knows how Biden will respond to Chief Ortiz’s testimony or what actions he will take moving forward. He might just ignore the whole thing. After all, that’s what he’s done about the border the whole time he’s been in office. Something needs to be done soon in order to address this growing crisis at our southern border before it spirals out of control any further or before we lose the country altogether.
