Follow the Money: MTG Demands Audit
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is seeking answers to a critical question – where did the tens of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars flowing to Ukraine as it fights off the Russian invasion go? On Thursday, she announced her plan to reintroduce a bill that would force an audit of this money in order to provide transparency and accountability for the American people. Greene intends to introduce a resolution of inquiry into the House, which would request information from the executive branch, as soon as Friday, the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“It’s going to force Congress to give the American people an audit,” Greene said in an interview on Tucker Carlson Tonight. “And that is exactly what the American people need, an audit of Ukraine, because we have no idea where all this money’s going.”
Though Republicans rallied behind Greene’s efforts last Congress, they lacked a majority in the House at that time and she is optimistic that this time around there will be different results with support from her Republican colleagues. Her announcement came only hours before Samantha Power, administrator of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), affirmed that so far there has been no evidence indicating misuse or misappropriation of U.S. aid in Ukraine but reiterated that they are continuously checking these funds to ensure proper use and accountability.
On Friday, it was revealed by the White House that over $30 billion in military aid will be given to Ukraine this year alone, signifying how much is being done to help them battle against Russian aggression and occupation forces. It is essential for Congress and all involved parties to adhere to high standards for transparency and accountability when dealing with these amounts of money, something Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her resolution of inquiry are attempting to bring forward through an audit of these funds in order to restore trust and security among taxpayers.
