Uh-Oh! Joe Biden Mishandled Classified Docs Including Materials Related to Iran and Ukraine
On January 10th, it was revealed that the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee had requested that the U.S. intelligence community conduct a review of classified documents found in a private office formerly used by Sleepy Joe Biden. The documents in question date back to his time as vice president and cover topics including Iran and Ukraine.
The documents were discovered by Biden’s personal lawyers on November 2nd and the White House counsel’s office notified the National Archives, who took possession of the materials the following morning. The material was contained in a folder in a box with other unclassified papers, and sources familiar with the matter said the documents did not contain nuclear secrets.
Attorney General Merrick Garland has assigned the U.S. attorney in Chicago to review the documents, and the review is considered a preliminary step before determining whether further investigation is necessary. The review is expected to conclude soon.
The incident has caused some controversy, with GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy calling the recovery of documents with classified markings from Biden’s time as vice president “very concerning.” Meanwhile, former President Trump commented on the story, asking on his Truth Social app, “When is the FBI going to raid the many homes of Joe Biden, perhaps even the White House?”
While the review is ongoing, it’s unclear what the documents contain or their level of classification. It appears that Biden’s personal lawyers took appropriate action by immediately handing the material over to the National Archives, and the White House has said that the president is unaware of their contents.
The investigation will likely shed more light on the incident and how the documents got from Biden’s vice-presidential office to the Penn Biden Center. The outcome of the review will determine whether the incident will have any lasting repercussions.
