Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is known for his quirks. He’s announced plans to send humans to Mars, he smokes weed on a podcast, and he’s even gone so far as to change his Twitter name to “Elon Tusk.”

Now, it seems, he’s added another quirk to his list: he won’t be signing autographs anymore. Why? Apparently, he’s worried about the risk of assassination.

According to the Daily Wire,

Musk told the paparazzi that he would no longer sign autographs after he landed in at Dulles International Airport Saturday night, TMZ reported.

“I want to be clear, I’m not doing any more signings ever again,” Musk said as he was surrounded by security guards.

The news comes after Musk said during a chat on Twitter Spaces Saturday afternoon that the risk to his security has increased in recent months.

Musk told listeners that he would “definitely” not “be doing any open-air car parades, let me put it that way,” Musk said. “Frankly the risk of something bad happening to me, or even literally being shot, is quite significant.”

“It’s not that hard to kill somebody if you wanted to, so hopefully they don’t, and fate smiles upon the situation with me and it does not happen,” he added. “There’s definitely some risk there.”

Musk isn’t wrong; there have been several high-profile assassinations in recent years, including the killings of journalists Jamal Khashoggi and Daphne Caruana Galizia. And given his status as one of the world’s most powerful CEOs—not to mention his public feuds with the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos—it’s not hard to imagine that there are people out there who would want to take a shot at him.

So, while it may be disappointing news for fans hoping to snag an Elon Musk autograph, it’s probably not surprising that he’s decided to err on the side of caution. After all, as they say, better safe than sorry.
