Giorgia Meloni was elected as Italy’s next prime minister last week, making her the country’s first female populist candidate.

Meloni became Italy’s first female prime minister after her party, the Center Right Party, achieved a significant amount of success in the national elections held last Sunday.

She was congratulated on her election victory by Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, on Wednesday. Following this, Meloni made one of the first public statements she has made since winning the election. She stated that she will provide Kyiv with her entire support.

Correspondingly, the Russian energy behemoth Gazprom stopped delivering gas to Italy. The company stated that the issue was due to transport difficulties in Austria. But was it?

Or was it purposely done stopped on account of her throwing her support at Ukraine? I mean, honestly, aren’t you not supposed to bite the hand that feeds you? If Italy is dependent upon Russia to provide energy, then it’s probably not the best idea to slap them in the face.

Russia’s Gazprom suspended gas deliveries to Italy just days after new right-wing leader Giorgia Meloni publicly backed Ukraine.

The Italian energy giant Eni said they were informed that a transport problem in Austria meant the Russian gas supplier would not able to delivery any gas until at least Monday.

Giorgia Meloni, who will become Italy’s new prime minister, previously said Putin ‘threatens the security of the entire European continent’ and that his annexation of four Ukrainian regions has ‘no legal and political value’.

Putin has been at loggerheads with European countries over the supply of natural gas and has been accused of using the flow of gas needed for energy in the region as an economic weapon.

Most of Russian gas delivered to Italy passes via Ukraine through the Trans Austria Gas Pipeline (TAG), to Tarvisio in northern Italy on the border with Austria.

Gazprom later in the day said in a statement that the transportation of Russian gas through Austria had been suspended ‘due to the refusal of the Austrian operator to confirm the transport nominations’.

Regardless, it’s looking like this is going to be a very cold winter for Europe and they’re all going to lean on the United States for help during this time and Sleepy Joe is going to do whatever they ask, even if it means putting us on the line for it.
