Apple Bends a Knee to China and Removes Popular Bible App from App Store
To say that Christianity is under attack is an understatement. No other religion has received as much oppression as Christianity has in the last 2000 years.
During this pandemic, we’ve seen countries tell churches that they are not allowed to worship God in the way that they are commanded to according to Scripture.
No federal government has the right to tell someone that they cannot worship the living and true God. Yet, we have seen countless people getting arrested for going to church and for leading church services.
Obviously, there are many who have it worse than we do. In some countries, Christianity is illegal and even punishable by death. Thankfully, we’re not at that level in America, at least, not yet.
But something crazy and new just happened and it seems so strange, yet not strange at the same time.
Apple removed a popular Bible app from their app store recently and it was to placate the Chinese Communist Party. They said that the app violated their local laws on hosting religious texts.
According to the BBC,
The New York Times reported earlier this year that Apple takes down apps in China if deemed off limits by the Chinese government. Topics that apps cannot discuss include Tiananmen Square, the Chinese spiritual movement Falun Gong, the Dalai Lama, and independence for Tibet and Taiwan.
Benjamin Ismail, project director at Apple Censorship, said: “Currently Apple is being turned into the censorship bureau of Beijing.
“They need to do the right thing, and then face whatever the reaction is of the Chinese government.”
Another popular religious app, Olive Tree’s Bible app, was also taken down this week in China. The company told the BBC they had removed the app themselves.
“Olive Tree Bible Software was informed during the App Store review process that we are required to provide a permit demonstrating our authorization to distribute an app with book or magazine content in mainland China,” said a spokesperson.
“Since we did not have the permit and needed to get our app update approved and out to customers, we removed our Bible app from China’s App Store.”
So why do they bend a knee to China? Well, it’s because they have their factories in China and they have to obey China’s dictator. If we would just stay competitive in America and put our country first, we could put an end to so many of our problems.
