It’s a shame to say it but elderly abuse is on the rise in America.

Elderly abuse can be defined as “a single, or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, which causes harm or distress to an elderly person.”

The elderly are increasingly seen as vulnerable and unable to protect themselves, making them prime targets for abusers. Many elderly people do not report victimization because they feel too threatened; others fear that no one will believe them over someone in a position of power such as a family member. In addition to being abused by family members and other relatives, elderly people may also suffer from abuse from their caretakers who have been hired to help with everyday tasks. This is most often what we see and we typically see it from younger caretakers.

The elderly also face crimes involving financial exploitation and neglect.

They are viewed as an “at risk” population for many reasons. They are more likely to have chronic medical conditions and mobility issues that limit their ability to get away from danger or threats.

According to the NCEA elderly people who suffer from dementia are at even higher risk of being abused. Abuse can come in different forms such as physical abuse which includes hitting, pushing, restraining; emotional abuse where there is name-calling or frightening the elderly person; sexual abuse which is forced sex acts upon elderly people who may not be able to give consent because they lack capacity so it would be considered rape.

Elderly abuse can pose a major concern for elderly people and their caretakers. In elderly people the elderly may suffer from broken bones, bruising, malnutrition, dehydration, weight loss, pressure ulcers/sores that are caused by prolonged bed confinement or lack of movement which can lead to worsened existing medical conditions such as urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, or even death in some cases.

I think caretaker companies need to stop hiring these young idiots who just don’t care about others.

Democrats want to actually do something to help people, why don’t they address this matter because it’s their own people who are doing the abuse. This is something we’re seeing all the time.
