I can’t believe that we’re talking about it again, but the White House is considering implementing more strict mandates on masks once again since we’re seeing an increase in new cases once again.

I swear it seems like there is never going to be an end to this mask wearing thing as far as the government goes.

Thankfully, in some states, the governors have already decided that there won’t be any more mask mandates going forward.

But I’ll tell you one of the most ridiculous things that I’ve heard recently and it was New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio saying what he said about masks.

De Blasio said, “I respect the importance of masks, but if we want to make a comparison, a mask is a pea shooter, and the vaȼȼine is a cannon. Let’s be clear, the thing that will make a difference is the vaȼȼine. The thing that stops the Delta variant, the thing that turns the tide and saves lives is the vaȼȼine. The mask helps, but there’s no guarantee with a mask. So, what our doctors say is, let’s go for the main event here, not the sideshow. Let’s really double down on vaȼȼination. We’ll continue to look at every option depending on what happens, but what I don’t want is to give people a false sense of security, oh, I’m wearing a mask, so I’m okay even though I’m unvaȼȼinated. That’s just not true.”

So we have no confidence in the vaȼȼines at the moment and the masks give us a false sense of security? So where was this thought process for the past year and a half when they were all cramming mask-wearing down everyone’s throats?

Here’s what I’m going to say about all of this:

Yes, there are more cases popping back up all of a sudden and it seems to have shot up pretty dramatically. We went from averaging somewhere around 15,000 new cases per day, back up to 35,000-40,000 new cases.

The trend is still nearly the same though. We’re seeing the biggest increases in the usual states like California, Texas, Florida, and Georgia. However, there are a few states that are standing out above the crowd here. One of them is Missouri which has seen a very large increase in the number of cases.

The number that I saw recently was something like 93% of all new cases in Missouri were from the Delta variant which is supposed to be a little more transmissible.

At the same time though, what I’m also noticing is that the number of deaths is not going up. This would indicate that the severity of this variant is not as strong as the previous variants, which is a good thing. Maybe the virus is weakening at it continues to mutate.
