Lost and Desperate Hiker Saved By Very Weird Hobby

I don’t know if you’re like me, but I thoroughly enjoy hiking. If I could get paid to hike every day, I would surely do it.

I grew up in the country and I would sometimes spend all day in the woods behind my house. We had acres upon acres of woods to play in as kids.

One man’s pleasant hike turned bad when he found himself lost, not knowing where he was in the woods.

The young man sent a photo to his friend hoping that it would help the authorities locate him. Along with the photo, the man texted his friends saying that he was lost and that his phone battery was dying.

The situation seems almost hopeless. Even the Los Angeles County Sheriffs’ office issued an announcement on Twitter to try and help find the lost hiker.

Thankfully, one man, Benjamin Kuo was able to help the police find the man thanks to a very weird hobby. He is a “satellite mapping enthusiast”.

Kuo saw the report and said that he had an idea of what the GPS coordinates for that location might be.

“I was hoping I didn’t send them on a wild goose chase, and then they’d get mad at me,” Kuo said to KCBS-TV in LA.

Kuo didn’t have to worry about leading anyone on wild goose chases for long. A rescue helicopter was sent out to the canyon, and Compean was found on a ridge less than a mile away from the coordinates Kuo had given.

The man incredibly thankful and was not hurt or in need of any medical attention. “I crazy appreciate what you did…” said the man. “I really don’t know if I could make it there another day. It was just so cold.”
