Look What’s Inside Biden’s Executive Order on Guns
We all should have seen it coming. We all should have known that with Democrats in control of the White House the Senate and the House of Representatives gun control action was inevitable.
Earlier this week Joe Biden announced that he was going to be signing an Executive Order in an effort to further restrict Second Amendment rights for Americans. On top of that feed new ATF director that he appointed also happens to be anti-gun.
In a statement, the administration outlined the following “initial actions” in his attack on gun rights:
The Justice Department, within 30 days, will issue a proposed rule to help stop the proliferation of “ghost guns.”
The Justice Department, within 60 days, will issue a proposed rule to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act.
The Justice Department, within 60 days, will publish model “red flag” legislation for states.
One thing I want to focus on is the ghost guns. Ghost guns, for those who may not be aware of the term are guns that are actually built or sampled by individuals after acquiring a number of parts or sometimes there sold in kits. These parts would include something that is unfinished so for example a lower receiver. What this does is require the person who has the partial lower receiver to do some sort of drilling to actually make a functional firearm. Lower receivers have serial numbers which is why they are able to be tracked.
In these circumstances where it’s not a full lower receiver but essentially a piece of metal that requires drilling in order to make it a proper lower receiver there is no serial number on it and therefore once the piece has been completely manufactured by the person who bought it they can then assemble the weapon and it will be fully functional. This is what they call a ghost gun.
I can understand the ghost gun thing. I can truly understand both sides of the aisle on this one. In one sense, there may honestly be some sort of racket going on in crime-heavy cities in which people manufacture something like the lower receivers to make a complete firearm and then sells it to people on the streets which of course requires no background checks.
However, I don’t think that any sort of laws like this will stop them from making them. They are criminals, they don’t care about laws…hence why they’re called criminals.
