REPORT: Trump to launch alternative news network to ‘wreck’ Fox News
Fox News enjoyed a great run at the top of the rankings and was the clear favorite network of the President of the United States.
That, however, has changed dramatically over the last few weeks.
Recent ratings show Fox News trailing in key time slots but the news for the network gets far worse than that.
Ratings Plunge
Fox News is used to being at the top of the heap, but the latest ratings have put Fox News behind not just one network, but two.
From Election Day to the following Sunday, Fox News finished third in the prime-time slot to both CNN and NBC News. These are slots that Fox News has dominated for years, so what happened?
The easy answer is that Fox News dropped the ball in several areas on election night.
First, Fox News predicted that Democrats would pick up five House seats, but Republicans are close to swinging 10 seats right now, possibly more. Second, Fox News called Arizona very early for Joe Biden and refused to take the call back after it was found that only 84 percent of the ballots had been counted, NOT the 94 percent that had been reported earlier.
Trump supporters were furious and started to look at alternative networks like OANN and NewsMax rather than stick by Fox News, a network that has taken a slight left-hand turn in recent months and seems to be poised for a far more liberal tilt with its new lineup.
For instance, the addition of Donna Brazile did not sit well with conservatives, nor did the clearly biased opinion of Chris Wallace, who, although a liberal, used to be one of the best in the game.
Opportunity Knocks
Long before becoming president, Donald Trump had toyed with the idea of starting his own media company. The new void for conservatives presents an opportunity that may be far too good for Trump to pass up if he does end up losing this election.
Trump, who has openly supported Fox News in the past, is now looking for blood, and starting his own media company would be the best way to get revenge against Fox News for turning against him.
A recent Axios report cites a Trump insider that stated, “He plans to wreck Fox. No doubt about it.” That would more than likely come in the form of launching MAGA Media or Trump TV.
This could be far more costly than just another competitor for Fox News, as several personalities on the network are fiercely loyal to Trump, so it would not be a surprise to see one or more of the big prime-time names migrate over to MAGA Media or whatever the moniker ends up being.
Off the top of my head, I could see Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham lining up with Trump and possibly even Tucker Carlson, which would just be a crippling blow to Fox News.
