It’s been all over the news everywhere; Kobe Bryant is dead. It’s a terribly tragic event.

I’ll admit as a long-time basketball fan, the news came as a complete shock when I read the notification on my phone. My jaw literally dropped when I saw it. Even today I feel like maybe the news is going to change somehow like this was all just a misunderstanding.

I guess it’s just really crazy that someone as well-known as Kobe Bryant could be here one day and gone the next with now warning, but that is life.

As the news was being covered on Bryant’s death, one news anchor accidentally made a major slip of the tongue when she was talking about Bryant.

MSNBC host Alison Morris While was speaking with a sports journalist about the tragic and untimely death of Bryant, and during the interview Morris somehow mixed up her words and instead of saying the “Los Angeles Lakers” it sounded to viewers like she said the “Los Angeles N*ggers.”

According to the New York Post,

An MSNBC anchor apologized on Sunday after some believed she made a racial slur during a live broadcast shortly after the death of Kobe Bryant.

Host Alison Morris appeared to drop the N-word while trying to say the name of Bryant’s team, the Lakers, during an announcement about the fatal helicopter crash.

Following the gaffe, Morris said she misspoke, combining the words “Knicks” and “Lakers” to say “Nakers,” which several on Twitter heard as the racial slur.

“Earlier today, while reporting on the tragic news of Kobe Bryant’s passing, I unfortunately stuttered on air, combining the names of the Knicks and the Lakers to say ‘Nakers,’” she wrote on Twitter.

“Please know I did not & would NEVER use a racist term. I apologize for the confusion this caused.”
